I need to go to Paris again
Circus Dissertation is Live
My name is Jaine. I am a student at the University of the West of England. I am earning a Master of Sciences in Sport and Exercise Psychology in the hopes that one day I can offer the services of a sport psychologist to circus schools and independent circus companies.
I have practiced circus in some form since 2005 and completed a 2 year vocational course at Bristol’s Circomedia in 2012. I continue to follow my passion for both circus and psychological inquiry to this day.
To that effect, I am writing a dissertation about circus artists and non circus artists and how they experience their lives. I need both groups of participants in order to get a decent amount of information. I have not tried to crowdsource participants from tumblr thus far, but I certainly believe in your power of getting the word around.
If you would like to participate, click the link! (preferably from a PC: I have doubt that the survey is mobile friendly.)
Thank you very much!

Reposting! I need more people who don’t do circus! I also need more circus people! I know it is possible to get a spectacularly large population for my study. Calling my big deal followers! Use your powers for good! Help circus science! Take my survey!
There are about two weeks left on my survey! Take it! Share it! For Science! For Circus! For Circus Science!
Hey followers, if you have a little bit of time, please participate in Jaine’s thesis study! (also yay i took that photo!)
protip: cameras generally don’t understand how firelight works, so always adjust your white balance in post. if your exposure looks blown out, fiddle with the temperature settings and see if that doesn’t help things a bit.

I got some amazing shots last week during that freak snowstorm and they’re in the queue!
Anonymous said: A friend of mine is currently a member of Weapons of Mass Distraction, but I've never seen a photo of him on this blog. Do some people not want to be photographed or do you not have many current photos?
I’m an alum, so I don’t get the opportunity to go to every burn, but since I’m more familiar with the way older WMD members move their bodies and props, I tend to get better shots of them. A few people burn smaller props at higher speeds, and under those conditions, I simply can’t get a well-lit shot of the performer. Dart is the trickiest, especially if they don’t ever let the prop get anywhere near their body or face!
Anyway, if you know anyone who wants to see photos of themselves, tell them to talk to me and I’ll see what I can do. :)
